Raising Money. Raising Hope. Raising Changes.

The Sears Great Canadian Run 2012
About the run…
This is the second year that The Sears Great Canadian Run is taking place. It is long distance relay running event taking place in two Canadian locations, Toronto and Ottawa. The run in Ottawa takes place on October 13, 2012. It is a 100km distance beginning at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum and follows a series of roads and trails to Montebello, Quebec.
Welcomehome Relocations will be participating in the Toronto event on September 22, 2012. As a team we will complete a 100km route that begins in Toronto and ends in the Village of Blue Mountain. As a team we will work together, running different legs of the race to complete the course. It’s about going the distance together and enjoying the journey.
Teams will cross the finish line in Blue Mountain Village and be greeted by friends and family of the cause to celebrate the completion of their journey. The Sears Great Canadian Run hosts an epic party where teams will celebrate their accomplishments and hear from cancer survivors.
Although they are only in their second year of the run Sears has made great strides in raising money and awareness to the fight to end kid’s cancer. Let’s find a cure! Even if you are not a runner you can become involved by volunteering or donating.
Why we’re running…
Cancer is the most common cause of non-accidental death in Canada’s children beyond the newborn period. There is a great need for more research on the effects and causes of children’s cancers. This area of research has been neglected in the past as it was believed that cancer in children and in adults was the same. The types of cancer diagnosed are vastly different than those found in most adults. These cancers affect the body differently and are found in different areas of the body.
Today, more than 70 percent of children with cancer become long-term survivors. This statistic shines a ray of hope on the fight. The unfortunate aspect of this statistic is that, although they may be considered cured, the effects of cancer treatments have a long-term affect on these children. It is a never ending fight.
At Welcomehome we recognize the great importance of this issue. As a team we want to get involved and make even a little bit of a difference for the children and families fighting the great fight. Every little helps when trying to find a cure.
How your donation will help…
The Run will support the Sears Canada Charitable foundation. Sears aims to be a significant fundraising resource in the childhood cancer area. The funds generated from the relay will be directed to The Hospital for Sick Children and national initiatives across Canada that support the research and treatment of kids cancer and help fund 16 national pediatric oncology centers.
